Rethinking Anger: A Bioenergetic Approach

Dates: To be announced.

Anger is empowering when it provides the energy to change something. It can lead us to find where we stand in the world and to speak our true voice, as in “speaking truth to power.” Anger can also be dangerous when expressed inappropriately or chronically denied. It can draw us into a forcing current of “My way ” or “I’m right” that undermines our capacity for human connectedness. Chronically denying anger can lead to explosions or to living in anxiety and fear as we lose our ability for healthy self-protection. Blocked anger can be an underlying factor in depression while anger expressed inappropriately can become harmful in our relationships. Suppressed anger can contribute to physical problems such as TMJ. The workshop will provide mental health therapists an opportunity to learn the theory, and to experience the work of the body-based psychotherapy approach of modern Bioenergetic Analysis, including various types of anger and ways to express it appropriately. Lay persons are welcome and will learn how to use their body experience to navigate opportunities for growth and connection which come from healthy anger and its effective expression. Come explore new ways of relating to this vital energy!
