MSBA Training Program

The Massachusetts Society for Bioenergetic Analysis offers a professional training program in bioenergetic analysis leading to certification recognized by the International Institute for Bioenergetic Analysis.

The Basic Four-year Program

A training year is typically eight weekends, including Friday evening through Sunday afternoon.  The curriculum of the first two years focuses on basic bioenergetic theory and the bioenergetic approach to the human organism.  The curriculum of the second two years focuses on clinical application in the therapeutic relationship.

One- or Two- Year Program

As an introduction to the study of bienergetics, an individual may enroll in the fist year of the first two years of the basic four year program.  The one- or twopyear program is not adequate preparation for the practice o bioenergetic analysis.  Its purpose is to educate or to supplement education in a related field.  When there is room in the training group, the one- or two-year program may be taken for personal interest.

For further information and for application to the program contact the MSBA office at 617-876-3652.

Requirements for Certification in Bioenergetic Analysis
  • A Master’s Degree or higher degree in one of the mental health or psychotherapeutic fields.  An advanced degree in a related field in nursing, medicine, education or religion may be accepted.  In some cases equivalent life experience may be accepted.
  • Satisfactory completion of a basic four-year training program in bioenergetic analysis sponsored by the Society or another of the affiliates of the International Institute for Bioenergetic Analysis.  Someone may be considered a “candidate for certification” at this point.
  • Satisfactory completion of a fifth year of training.  The fifth year may be participation in an ongoing clinical seminar of by alternative training within the International Institute.
  • A minimum of 140 hours of individual bioenergetic anlaysis (therapy) with a certified bioenergetic analyst, at least 70 hours of which must be done by one therapist.  At least half of these hours will occur after the beginning of training.
  • 60 hours of bioenergetic supervision, at least 35 hours of which must be individual supervision.  The rest may be group supervision.  Hours in group supervision are counted by the formula:  two times the number of hours divided by the number of group members.
